Stream of consciousness

Corey Haim died today. I was stunned when I saw the headline on CNN.com. I mean, he was my age. It was very weird to think about it. Kind of made the rest of the day a bit surreal in some ways. Not that I'm a Corey Haim fanatic or anything, but I think it's that we are the exact same age that makes it weird. I can't imagine just keeling over dead at not-even-40. I guess drugs will do that to you.

I have to say I feel a bit bad; as far as I know it's only speculation...innuendo...outuendo... (sorry; I saw WICKED again recently...) that he OD'd; it hasn't been confirmed. I am sure the assumption is based on pretty good history of his, but still... guilty until proven innocent in the shadow of death. As I write this, I'm listening to a snippet of Corey Feldman from a Larry King interview saying that people need to stop jumping to this (obvious and immediate) conclusion; drugs haven't been proven as a cause of his death. I have to agree. Even if it turns out that they were, c'mon... give the guy the benefit of the doubt.

Like I said, I saw WICKED again recently. I've seen it so many times I've lost count. The best part of my obsession with this show? I still catch something new EVERY TIME. I have been really wanting to see this show from the balcony (I've always spent the money to see it close up on the orchestra level). I often enjoy a show more when seeing if from the balcony. So this time, a couple of weeks ago, I sat in the front row of the first balcony. It was an entirely new show, and indeed I caught things I'd never noticed before. Not only did I see things that I hadn't seen before due to seating stuff, I understood Madam Morrible's motivations and actions at a deeper level than I have prior to now. The show is brilliant, really. I'm hoping to bite the bullet and see it a couple more times before I leave this area... the tour will be hitting the city to where I will be relocating this summer. So of course I'll see the touring show. Did I say this show is brilliant? Becuase it is.... absolutely brilliant.

I leave tomorrow for a vacation back where my roots are... I"m VERY excited. People soup is definitely on the menu... just what I need: a day of soaking in geothermal hot springs, staring down the side of the mountain to the creek below. I hope there's still snow up there, or it's raining, because it just makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

With that in mind, I guess I should go pack...
