The license plate saga continues

Along with the stress of getting ready to move cross-country, needing to find a place to live, trying to buy some property to eventually build a house on, packing, working, trying to nail down a job (which I have NO earthy idea how this is going to go...), cashing out a retirement annuity fund to pay for all of this, I have to deal with the whole missing license plate saga.

So when I noticed it, I called the police to report it. I had images of some car with MY plate on it being used in a drive-by, a drug bust, or some other dubious situation. The dispatcher took my report, and said an officer would be sent. I waited from 2 til 6 am; no officer showed. So on Monday I wised up and filed a report on line.

A couple days later, the po po call, saying that I couldn't file that sort of report online, and they were considering it a bogus report anyway since an officer had been dispatched to my address and no one answered the door.

As I live in a gated apartment complex, I had told the dispatcher that the cop needed to CALL ME so I could let him in the gate. Did they call? No. Even better: they took down my address wrong so had sent the officer to the wrong place.

So, I filed a NEW report over the phone with the investigator. I told them I moved my front plate to my rear window, inside my car, to try to not have the second plate ripped off.

I was told that I needed to return the plate to the front and contact the DMV, since state law is that there needs to be two plates on a car.

Due to the state's budget mess, the DMV has weekly furloughs and is totally overrun during business hours. Best chance of anything is to set up an appointment. Well, there are NO appointments for like 6 weeks. Then, it will take about 10 days to get replacement tags and plates. That would mean I get my replacement plates AFTER I've moved from the state.

I was told that state law was that I needed two plates, and I had to contact the DMV.

Anyone else see the circular arguement?!
