Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain

I've been away for nearly 10 years, aside from the occasional visit (which doens't happen nearly often enough!!), but somehow this town and region is deeply rooted in my consciousness, in my identity, in my whole soul and being.

Where I am currently, we've had a helluva stormy week, and the rain has made me miss the Northwest. Rain and winds that are totally insane have wreaked havoc on this city for the last several days. I wake up overnight or in the early morning and hear it just pouring outside. It reminds me of being back in the Northwest.

I am usually grumpy because I have to crawl out of bed and start my day, live up to my committments and be responsible instead of lying in bed listening to the rainfall. I have been looking forward to this weekend because I wanted to wake up early in the morning and be lulled back to sleep by the rain.

Of course, the weekend rolls around and it's sunny. Well, not California sunny, but sunny-for-winter kind of sunny. And cold. While it's beautiful, I have been disappointed not to be able to fall back to sleep listening to the rain.

I'm sure the rain will be back tomorrow for another week of storms, and I'll not be able to lay in bed listening to it. Instead it will be my wake-up call to get up, crawl out of my nice warm bed, and start my day.

Oh well. There's always next weekend.

I, too, love that lull of the rain on a day when I can stay in bed. That would have been today, darn it, except we had a house full of company. And now, as I drop off to sleep, quiet. Miss the rain. Great post and extremely well written, bud!
